Calling all open data developers. Calling all hackers. You love local search? We have a contest for you!
(STL = Société de transport de Laval – Laval Transport Authority)
STL recently launched its new open data offering, supported by a contest for developers, called Let’s Develop Together! The STL has always been at the forefront of innovation as a transit authority in Canada, testing and tweaking new technologies and different approaches to its operations and fleet of GPS tracked buses, all for the benefit of its riders.
The contest is a real opportunity for developers to use the planned and real-time schedule data of STL’s fleet in order to build applications that can benefit a passenger and how they interact with the STL and/or a transit operator in general. Most importantly, developers are offered some pretty significant prizes – how does $5,000 sound – and encouraged to participate with other like-minded developers on their Groups’ page, here.
The STL is providing data in GTF (General Transit Feed, formerly Google Transit Feed) format, along with an XML feed supported with documentation. Developers can find all the info the need on the STL contest site, here.
Now go and build a transit app!
